Every once in awhile (Okay too often) I will open our refrigerator to find the classic signs we are not being so healthy lately. They include:

When that happens I know it's time to kick our rears into gear and clean that junk out. I know we haven't been paying attention to what we eat, and need some vitamins and good things in our systems STAT. So, I turn to the Green Smoothie. With many variations around the web, this is our can't fail version that we know we both like. It's like a treat, and good for us at the same time.
It is incredible easy to make, is very good for you, and is tasty to boot.
- 2 Bananas
- 1 Cup Fresh Pineapple
- Frozen Fruit (Anything, our favorite is peaches)
- Fresh Baby Spinach
- Water to blend
Make it in three easy steps:
1. Add peeled bananas, pineapple, and frozen fruit to blender with water. Start with 1/2 cup of water and add as needed to make it easy to blend (I usually end up around 3/4 - 1 cup... remember more water = more liquidy). Blend it up. No ice needed, the frozen fruit makes it cold and icy.
2. Add two generous handfuls of baby spinach to the mix. Don't worry! You won't taste the spinach at all. Push it down with a spoon.
3. Blend it all together for a good 2 minutes to get the spinach really blended in there.
This recipe makes 2, good sized smoothies. If you are like me and can't run a blender in the morning for fear you'll wake up a little one, you can make it the night before and it will be OK the next morning (just don't expect it to be too good after more than 10-12 hours as it will separate).
Do a search for "Green Smoothie" on the web to find countless more recipes and variations. Some add Kale, Romaine, other Fruits, the possibilities are endless. But it's all about the "green" and goodness. And you don't need a fancy blender for goodness sakes. As long as it mixes this will still be tasty.
